 An objective

The goals of the project include creating a database for medical programs at Minnesota Canoe and Backpacking Camps and identifying risks in this population using summer experience.

Way

The YMCA Camp Vijjivan employed a total of 123 employees and served 725 camps in the summer of 2000. The result was 9418 Tourist Trail Days (CDT), 2497 Employee Route Days (STD), and 20150 Participation Days. (PD), evaluation units for this study.

 Data were collected using routine documentation: treatment records (DL) for any incident requiring attention, and incident reports (IR) for serious injuries and nearby errors. 

The information was analyzed using descriptive statistics and variance analysis recorded in the Access database. List the risk factors involved in the camp.

Result

There were 582 DLs and 59 IRs, of which 12 cases were discharged for medical care (1/1000 PD). 

Kane groups were not at greater risk than pack groups (p = .607), and campers compared staff with *** or injured location (0.4 / 1000 CD vs. 0.1 / 1000 CD; P <.001) Reported more incidents. . 

Risk camps (10 IR / 1000 CDT; P <.001) and more advanced backpack trips (9 IR / 1000 CDT; P <.001) to initiate successful advanced canoe trips.

The conclusion

Careful monitoring of health events and close mistakes over time can show that any camp or camp group is at the greatest risk for injuries and illnesses. List the risk factors involved in the camp.
